Bregenz/Vienna/Graz/Klagenfurt, 13th of July 2021 – The railway infrastructure for the high-speed line through the Koralm Tunnel is not the end of the story for the joint venture: JV partners PORR Bau GmbH and Rhomberg Bahntechnik GmbH have now also been awarded the follow-up contract "GU2-TA". This means that after the construction and commissioning of the slab track, the two Austrian rail technology specialists will also be responsible for all further construction measures up to commissioning of the 33-kilometer-long Koralm Tunnel. This time, PORR is responsible for the commercial management, while Rhomberg Bahntechnik takes on the technical lead.
The joint venture will in fact be responsible for the overall technical infrastructure of the project until the line is put into operation at the end of 2025. This includes all cable construction services, telecommunications, energy and safety technology, mechanical equipment as well as construction services such as breakthroughs and metal construction. The contract is worth around 110 million Euros.
"We have already managed works in the first lot, such as the supply of the overhead line support points or the manufacture and operation of the temporary structures, from which we will also benefit during the installation of the railway infrastructure," explains Robert Kumpusch, Managing Director of Rhomberg Bahntechnik GmbH. "So it was easy for us to achieve synergies with the other tasks and, of course, to map them economically when preparing the bid for the corresponding lot." Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR, is also pleased: "The fact that we can now play a decisive role in shaping our largest in-house construction site, in which we have been actively involved since the shell construction work, right through to completion, is a great success." As in the case of the first contract, the two partners are now relying on the pooling of their expertise and experience to complete the task on schedule and on budget and to the client's complete satisfaction.
