The large-scale project to build the new Wendlingen-Ulm line is now nearing completion - the first ICE trains carrying passengers are scheduled to roll over the line at up to 250 km/h as early as December 2022. It's time to look back on an exciting and successful time and review the past months and years: Our project film provides exclusive insights into the large-scale Wendlingen-Ulm project and brings the colleagues who played a major role in the success of the project into the spotlight.

About the project

The new line between Wendlingen and Ulm, for which Rhomberg Bahntechnik, together with its joint venture partner Swietelsky in the Swabian Alb joint venture (ABSA), is in charge of track construction and railway infrastructure, is a truly large-scale project: 120 kilometres of slab track, 60 of which are in tunnels, 2 large bridges, 24 turnouts, 12 tunnels and a contract volume of around 250 million euros. On top of that, there is the construction of 50-Hertz installations as well as telecommunications and traction current systems, 1.300 kilometres of cabling works, mechanical infrastructure with ventilation systems, technical rooms and signage as well as the installation of 60 LED handrail. To tackle this workload, there are up to 70 salaried employees and 200 commercial workers on the construction site every day, all working in a continuous process - in some cases seven days a week in a decade-long operation - to make the new line between Wendlingen and Ulm a reality.
