Rosshäusern tunnel project, CH

Rosshäusern tunnel project, CH

Design phase completed / Work preparation started / Start of main work in July 2017

The new two-track Rosshäusern tunnel will be part of the line from Bern to Neuenburg. The project is part of the high-speed connections which will provide a better link-up between Switzerland and the European high-speed network. The approx. 2 km-long new tunnel is intended to reduce the travel time between Bern and Paris.

The shell construction of the Rosshäusern tunnel is currently in full swing. The concrete work of half of the tunnel has been completed. The emergency escape facilities and the two portals are being constructed in parallel. The entire structure will be handed over to the RS Rosshäuserntunnel consortium in July 2017. The RS Rosshäuserntunnel consortium – an internal consortium within the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group – has been commissioned with the entire railway engineering works. The Rosshäusern tunnel project is an ideal project for the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group to demonstrate its strength as full service provider in railway engineering – from the completed shell construction to the completed project.

The client, BLS Netz AG, released the detailed design commission on time in September 2016. At that point, the Rosshäusern tunnel project entered a new phase. Work preparation started, material was ordered and contracts were placed with sub-contractors. Currently, the construction site installation is being organised so that the RS Rosshäuserntunnel consortium will be able to move to its offices in Rosshäusern during May 2017. Initial preparatory works and acceptance procedures are scheduled for the same month.

When the tunnel is handed over to the consortium, the main work will start as of 3 July 2017. Based on a contractor scenario, the installation sequence has been planned such that all technical areas will be completed first before the installation of the ballast track starts in November. Final work will take place in February 2018 so that the construction phase can be completed at the end of March 2018. This will be followed by validations and tests so that the new Rosshäusern tunnel can be handed over for operation in the autumn of 2018.
